Obituary of James Burnet Sizer

James “Jim” Burnet Sizer, III, age 89, a resident of Harrison Township, Michigan died on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, MI. He was born on September 19, 1925 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late James B., II and Edna (Walker) Sizer. On April 14, 1984 in Mt. Clemens he was united in marriage to the former Mary Anne Costin. Together they have shared 30 years of marriage. After high school, Jim proudly served his county in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1954. He served as a commanding officer on the U.S.S. Minah and earned both the World War II Victory Medal and Korean Service Medal. Jim earned a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. His entire career was spent in several high profile jobs including work with the legendary aerospace designer Howard Hughes, NASA, Chrysler, and General Dynamics, until his retirement in 2010 at the age of 85. He was an active member at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Clemens, serving as an usher and elder, and active with the Men’s Club, Presbyteers, and the McRest program. He also attended the daily social meetings with friends at the Mt. Clemens Bakery. He and his wife Mary Anne enjoyed traveling, being fortunate to see much of the United States and Europe. He loved reading and was currently working on a Sizer family biography. He could often be found visiting the local libraries or watching any military history style television show. He will be missed by his wife Mary Anne Costin-Sizer, nephew Seth Sizer in TN, and his countless friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brother Seth Sizer. Memorial donations in memory of Jim may be sent to Habitat For Humanity International, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498 Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 2, 2015 in Forest Hills Cemetery will military honors provided by the United States Navy.
