My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time in your life. Gary was quite a guy. I never met anyone that could tell a funny story like him. He was goodhearted, intelligent, funny and honry!! For the times we stood around his kitchen counter drinking shots of Patrone (until I couldn't breathe anymore) and hearing the "Bathroom Story" for the tenth time (it got funnier each time) I will surely miss him.........

Dearest Patty, I was shocked to read of Gary's death in this morning's newspaper. I have thought about you both so often over the years. I have so many wonderful memories of our time in Memphis and of Gary's hilarious sense of humor (remember "Dave Comfort's parents" joke?) and I regret that we lost touch over the years. I hope you will contact me (whenever you feel like it, doesn't have to be now). My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love, Susan

Gary was absolutely one of a kind, and a great guy to hunt with and play with retreivers. I still laugh at some of the stories he told , even years later. As requested, we will " raise a glass " for him tonight ! You all are in my prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Percy Galbreath

Patty, Sarah and Sam, I am so saddened by your loss and the loss of a great boss and friend. I have such great memories of surgery stories, hunting updates from a good weekend in the blind, jokes, and just being a part of your family! Dr Reynolds was never at a loss for words! Even though we rarely talked in the past few years, when we did it was as if we had just talked the day before. He was a great guy and I am so privileged to have shared a part of his life! Thinking of all of you and praying for you! May your memories always be fresh and clear in the days ahead! Love Cindy

I was fortunate to know Gary at Central High School. We were in Journalism Class and worked on the Digest together. One of my most special memories of Gary is his teaching me to fly fish from a canoe on the lake near his parents weekend retreat. I never smoked but thought so much of Gary that I used to stand out behind old Central High on Dodds Avenue just to get to talk to him on the smoke breaks the boys took. I only attended one Central High reunion in 1993 and then only went to the casual Friday night, Gary I learned later came to Chattanooga for the Saturday. I was so sorry to miss him. I've been missing him for forty one years but I believe I'll see him again. That is a reunion I really look forward to. I plan to follow his wish and raise a glass in honor of my dear departed friend. Respectfully, David White

Sam and Sarah, I am thinking about you both so much. Your father was many things, but the greatest of all, he was your dad. I am so deeply sad that you are experiencing such an irreplaceable loss. No one should have to know what this feels like, least of all, you. I am inspired to know that the greatest parts of him (and there are many) will live on forever in the beautiful people you have become. For a man who has given the world so much, I will always be most grateful for you. I love you- Lucie

We were so sad to hear about Gary and we know that he will be missed by many. Our favorite memory is from almost twenty years ago in Memphis, TN. My husband is an oral surgeon and he was on call for Baptist Hospital. I was very pregnant with our first child. Steve was called in around midnight to help Gary with an emergency room case and of course I went into labor. Steve and Gary did surgery on a boy until about 4:00 AM, then Steve came home and took me back to Baptist Hospital. Our son was born mid-morning. Gary sent me a bouquet of flowers in my hospital room with the greatest card: "Roses are red, Violets are blue, You needed your husband, but I did too!" I still smile when I think about it. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Most sincerely, Julie and Dr. Steve Maroda

Every once in awhile you get to meet someone like Gary.We got that opportunity when he moved back to Chattanooga. After awhile I ask him about his profession, and wished he could do some work on me,when you get older gravity does strange things to your body. He told me to stand on my and everything would fall back into place. He had a great personality,my favorite was his trip to the hardware store. If he didn't have enough problems they had to get him aprice check.Sometimes he would laugh so hard and you would be laughing so hard with him you would never hear the whole storey. We think he was the most intelligent person we evey had the chance to meet.We have felt blessed , because we did get a chance to meet him. However we do regret we did not spend more time with him this past year.He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dearest Sarah and Sam, I regret that I did not know about the passing of your father earlier. He could make me laugh until I cried. I talked with your father so many times about how wonderful the two of you are. I heard so many stories of your family that I felt I knew each of you. I am sure you know that you were his world. My heart goes out to you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To the family of Dr. Reynolds: I know this is very late, but I just found out about Dr. Reynolds while I was looking him up on the computer. I know you do not know me, but Dr. Reynolds saved me in a way when I was 9 yrs old. July 3, 1992, I had my right heel and half of my foot cut off in a lawn mower accident. I was first rushed to Jonesboro, because it is a little closer to where we live. There, I was told my feet would have to be sewn together, and I would never walk again. My parents were not happy with that idea, so they took me out of St. Bernards and rushed me to Methodist Hospital in Memphis. There, I met Dr. Reynolds. My parents and I fell in love with him instantly. He explained that he could take a graft from my back to make a new foot. I was in the hospital that summer for 1 1/2 months. He did surgery on me MULTIPLE times from the ages of 9 until I was 16. After physical therapy, I was walking, running, and jumping like a normal 9 yr old. Even though I didn't like doctors, I loved Dr. Reynolds. As a child, he always made me feel comfortable. He was very personable and very funny. He was wonderful person, first of all, and a wonderful doctor. I am very sorry for your loss.
