Obituary of Elaine Verhage Morris

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
“…for I have learned the secret of being content, whatever the circumstances.” (from Philippians 4, found highlighted in her Bible) The circumstances of June 30, 2015, brought Elaine Verhage Morris into the full experience of that Secret of her Contentment, when He chose that date to bring her Home. Elaine was born the eldest of three daughters to Jean and John Verhage of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, November 18, 1929. Her early years were spent largely in Wisconsin and Michigan. As a new RN, fresh from college and nursing school, she began, with Bob Morris, 62+ years of marriage. Her medical expertise served her well in caring for her family and later on in official capacities at Atlanta-area hospitals. After a number of relocations, the Morris family settled in Doraville, Georgia. Elaine and Bob were active long-standing members of Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Activities included hosting international students, long-term involvement with a Vietnamese refugee family, volunteer work at crisis pregnancy centers, and tireless efforts directed at restoring their beloved country to its Christian heritage. In 2012, after 40 years in the Atlanta area, Bob and Elaine made the move to Alexian Village in Signal Mountain, TN, becoming associated with Wayside Presbyterian Church. Elaine is survived by her husband Bob, sisters Alice (John DeHaan) and Evie (Dave Schaafsma), children Dan (Kathy), Dave (Terry), Tim (Lisa), and Ruth Ann Cassis, along with 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren! A small graveside service, arranged by Wann Funeral Home, was held on July 3rd. A memorial service is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday, July 26th, at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 2502 Fairmount Pike, Signal Mountain, TN, 37377. All are welcome to come and join us as together we celebrate Elaine’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Choices Pregnancy Center, 6232 Vance Rd., Chattanooga, TN, 37421. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home & Cremation Center, at the foot of historic Lookout Mountain, St. Elmo. 821-7551 Share your memories, stories and photos at www.wannfuneralhome.com.
