Obituary of Christine Headley Allen

ALLEN, CHRISTINE HEADLEY died, Saturday, March 9, 2013 as she had just entered her 94th year. Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 7, 1920, Christine was the only daughter of Charles and Christine Headley. After her father was transferred from Scarsdale, NY to Birmingham, AL, Christine enrolled in local Birmingham schools. She later attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in New York. Christine made her debut in Birmingham in 1941 and was presented at the Black and White Ball and The Redstone Club Ball that year. She married Craig Allen, whom she had met in New York, on March 28, 1942 at Independent Presbyterian Church where they both remained as members. Christine was a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art, a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and, for years, a member of Mountain Brook Club. She was especially fond of her membership in the Culture Club and loved her years of travel with Craig to England. Christine is survived by her two sons, Craig Allen, Jr. (Laurie) and Charles (Chip) Allen (Elizabeth), four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A private ceremony was held. Memorials can be made to Independent Presbyterian Church.
