I so enjoyed playing ball for Lamar!! We had some great times!! I also remember catching when he was umping. We had some great talks behind the plate!! :o) My prayers are with the family during this time. He will always be remembered fondly!! Jody Henry-Stephens

I went to Middle Valley in the 4th grade with Lamar. He was in my class. On picture day, my mom said I could not play at recess, to stay in, because I wore a yellow chiffon dress and she did not want it spoiled. The teacher, however invited me to stay outside the chain link fence to the soft ball field, and not play. Lamar pitched a ball at me and it hit me in the face and bloodied my nose. Messed up that dress good. The teacher cleaned me up and all was fine for pictures. But I can never forget that day, and every day I had with Lamar. I remember him fondly. He was my friend. I pray he will always be with the Great White Father, for HE is the outshines all the rest. My he keep you in his care, Lamar. See you again someday.

I want to thank Lamar for keeping me in baseball. In 1975 he called me to play on his Summer team out of Middle Valley. I was finished with ball I thought, but he talked me into playing and I made the MV All-Star team. We had an All-City team with players from Hixson, Soddy Daisy, and Baylor Schools. We went on to beat an Alabama team to win the World Series! I went on to play baseball in college and graduated only because I wanted to play ball. After graduating from college I have coached baseball and softball at Soddy Daisy! I also gave him a player at Soddy Daisy in softball 2008 to 2011. I'm truely sorry to hear of Lamar's passing. We had many a battle on the softball field over the year's. My first encounter with Lamar came at the Brown Middle school baseball field when I was coaching East Ridge High softball. Lamar was the home plate umpire. It was my first year as head coach (1992) and I had a runner coming around third base and was trying to hold her up. Well....I literrally grabbed hold of her to keep her from racing home into an out. Time was called and Lamar walked slowly down to the third base line and said "Tom, you can't do that." He then called my runner out. How stupid was I? First year as a coach and I didn't know half the rules I should have. Lots of competetive memories. Rest in Peace Lamar. Tom Watson Head Coach ERHS 92-99 Assistant Coach Baylor School 02-present
