Obituary of Donald Avery Mills

Donald Avery Mills of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away on Friday, January 13th at the age of 70. Don was born to Reece and Evelyn Mills on April 18th, 1952 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After graduating from Soddy Daisy High School and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, he spent several fond years working on the livestock farm at West Virginia University before starting his own small farm in Bethpage, Tennessee. Looking for ways to supplement his farming income, Don passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in the early 1980s and entered his first auditing and accounting position with the State of Tennessee. In the late 1980s, Don moved to Chattanooga where he raised his daughter and son, Tory and Davis, and later married his sweetheart, Lee Ann, in 2005. He spent years advancing his learning with CFF and CFE certifications and finally building his beloved firm, MG Group P.C., in Tullahoma, Tennessee as the Audit Partner. Don is survived by his wife Lee Ann; his children Tory (Derek Martin) and Davis; his stepson, Cade; and his cherished Shih Tzu, Maggie. He was predeceased by his parents, Reece and Evelyn, and his sister, Reeca. Don’s family will host funeral services on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 at the Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00PM with a celebration of life immediately following at 2:00PM in the Legacy chapel. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Don’s memory be made to Animal Rescue Corps (animalrescuecorps.org) or World Central Kitchen (wck.org).
