It was a great pleasure and honor to know Don Loftis. In all of my years in Chattanooga, he became a favorite of mine, and while he will be missed there is no doubt that he made an impact on this community and all of those lucky enough to know him that will last in very significant ways.
I got to know Don through my colleague and friend, Kathy, and came to know both his son and daughter. He allowed me to help for years with his Superintendent's Leadership Conference which brought young student leaders together for a week of superb experiences on Monteagle. Those were great events, and Don was at his best wrangling the great people he brought in to work with the kids. The late night conversations with everyone leaning in to his memories and experiences built lasting impressions that have stood across the years.
Don Loftis made a difference in ways that can never be fully counted. He was among the best to come this way. He will not be forgotten.

Remembering Don's father Virgil and riding bus 23 around 1965-1968. This has always been a special family in Soddy Daisy. I was saddened to read of Don's passing. May God send the family the peace that surpasses all understanding. Sincerely, Carolyn on behalf of Brown Family

Don accomplished more for the employees and students at the Hamilton County School System than any other Superintendent I worked with or have observed since. Thank you, Don, for what you did for the students at the Hamilton County School System and for being a good friend.

In 1959 Don was voted 'the wittiest' guy in his high school class. In 1961, I was voted 'the wittiest' girl in my class. We always appreciated that we could make people smile or laugh. After college, I moved to Pennsylvania. My teaching years there were wonderful. You can imagine my surprise when I was hired for a principal's position and the superintendent there said, 'he had met Don at a conference.' He said, 'everyone there admired Don for his humor and his dedication'. Don was a blessing to our community, a credit to our profession and a helping hand to all who knew him. I will miss him like a brother.

Mr Loftis was a kind and generous man. He always looked forward to his annual 4th of July cook out with a very large pig which we procured for him. Mr Loftis will be missed and Don’s Meat Shop will make a $200 donation to Erlanger Heart and Lung Institute
