On the eve of the 2023 All Terrier Montgomery, I was saddened to learn of the passing of my dear friend & mentor Harriet Allen. A neophyte in the Norwich world Harriet spent time with me, of inestimable value. As the years rolled on, we spoke often, she was quick to give her advice, based on fact, & always a loyal friend. Plus what a sense of humor! My deepest sympathy and condolences to Craig and Rodney.

It still seems unreal that Harriet has left us. That I can’t pick up the phone and call her and hear about her day, get her advise on dogs, and talk just about everything. Harriet was a wonderful person. She was supportive and generous with her time. There were a few topics of conversation that would always get a rise out of her. And during these times she was always so funny and witty.
Harriet was a pillar of the Norfolk and Norwich communities. She was ethical and caring. She loved the dogs and knew so much about them. I learned so much from her.
All my sympathy to Craig, Rodney, and the rest of the family. I will never forget Harriet and I will miss her forever.

Allen boys, I was so blessed one day to get a call from your mom. I’d gotten a reference that I was a good Norwich person and your mom, out of the blue called me to introduce herself, mentor me, and later sponsoring me to the Norwich Terrier Club of America. From the very first call, she offered herself up day or night to help me. We sired a couple of really nice litters together over the years, then I got the phone call that solidified our family ties. She trusted me enough to take and co-own “Havic’s Winnie at Tuffy’s Brown Dog” My favorite memory was your mom calling me to tell me Winnie had just achieved her Championship status by winning at Brooksville. I wasn’t there, and your mom didn’t realize that I didn’t know yet. Your mom was SO happy and screaming on the phone I couldn’t understand what she was telling me, but I was pretty sure she had won the lottery. It was me who had won the lottery getting to know and love your mom. I thanked her relentlessly for helping me, I’m still not sure she knows how much she did. But I am grateful for every time we spoke, or texted. I’m grateful that she cared for Winnie and I. Craig, call your mom. She’s still there to listen, I promise.

Harriett and I showed dogs together and had many similar thoughts about our dogs. We spoke on the phone every couple of months for what seemed like a marathon 5 or 6 hours long. She was strong and sure of her convictions. I will miss our late night calls. Craig and Rodney my condolences to you both. May her name be a blessing. This is a photo of her Roscoe.
