Obituary of Ann Davidson Coggin

Ann Davidson Coggin passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Morning Pointe of East Hamilton. Ann was born to Williard Earl and Virginia Hadaway Davidson on August 13, 1944, in Evansville, Indiana. Ann graduated from Central High School in Camden, Tennessee in 1962. She then graduated from Murray State University in Murray, KY, and also attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for a brief time. After graduating from college, Ann married Greg Coggin in June 1967, and started her teaching career at the Piney Woods Early Head Start program in Chattanooga, TN, then became an English teacher at Soddy-Daisy High School. Ann became a stay-at-home mother after she and Greg adopted their first child in early 1970. After many years as a stay-at-home mother, in Chattanooga, TN, Wilmington, DE, Maplewood, NJ, and Lookout Mountain, TN, she and Greg became the owners of Sound Engineering in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1982. In later years, after the company was sold, she worked at Anna Ball White. Ann’s greatest passions were gardening, reading, traveling, bridge, and entertaining. She was active in many garden clubs, multiple book clubs, supper clubs, bridge clubs, the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Guild, and the Road Runners travel group. Ann was a faithful member of First-Centenary Methodist Church in Chattanooga, TN and the Morgan Sunday School Class. Over the years, Ann and Greg owned many pets, all of which she loved dearly, especially their Pekingese fur babies, Tinkerbell and Buddy. She is survived by her daughters Amy Coggin of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, and Jeanie (David) Ashley of Greensboro, Georgia, granddaughter, Celeste (Blake) Matthews of Chattanooga, brother-in-law, Pete Coggin (Kathy) of Columbia, Tennessee, sister-in-law, Sharon Coggin of Franklin, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins. Ann is preceded in death by her parents Willard Earl and Virginia H. Davidson and her loving husband of 56 years, Greg Coggin. At Ann’s request, there will be a graveside service at the Camden City Cemetery in Camden, TN at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Locally, there will be a memorial service at her home, 624 East Brow Road, Lookout Mountain, TN at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 17, 2023.
