Mother and Daddy, because that’s what they always were to me, were such an important part of my childhood. I loved my mom with all my heart, but was unconsciously jealous of your home life, because I didn’t have that. I adopted them immediately and they always treated me like family. I loved them immensely for that, and it is to my great regret that I haven’t seen them in so many years. Gayle, although we rarely see each other now, you will always be counted among my closest. I love you dearly, and as a great man once said, “You’re nobody till some Boddy loves you.”

I will always have fond memories of my great-aunt Lorene from our family reunions. She always seemed to be smiling! I know she was special to my grandmother, as a little sister to her. Her presence will be missed. -Jennifer Twomley

When Aunt Lorene and Uncle Bill lived in their retirement homes in Cleveland, I loved visiting with them on the way to or from my own parents’ home in Greeneville, TN. It was fun walking with Aunt Lorene outside or in the halls there and then later at Alexian Village. She always knew so much about our family since she kept up the genealogy book. I will miss those visits a lot! Love you so much, Aunt Lorene! See you soon when Jesus comes again❤️

Lorene remembered that Marshall could not say his name well, so when she saw him, she would say, "Hi Masal Gene. I wuv you!" Marshall remembers that Nelda, Mable and Chester were older siblings sent to the field to work. When Lorene was sent to the field with fresh, cool water for those workers, she found Mable without her sleeves. Mable had learned to remove the stitching. But, she told her siblings, she had worked so hard her sleeves fell off! Marshall remembers either Grandma Fox or Grandma Rosie saying, "The sun is getting up high in the sky. Let's go out there before it gets too hot!", so old and young alike worked in the field! The community called the Mitchelll 120 acres Mitchell Hill, which is now identified by an intersection of County Road 22 and County Road 64 , Collinsville, AL. At one family event Lorene decided she needed to sit on David Spears lap, put her arms around his neck and plant a kiss on him! David enjoyed that with the comment, "I love the Mitchell family!" Lorene spent a lot of time and effort on compiling the Mitchell genealogy after Mable was unable to continue that project. We are grateful for their time and effort doing this project. The Mitchell siblings were a closely knit family and passed this love and committment to their children. This love and close bond continues to be a tie that binds us together still. We saw the marital bonding of love in our uncles and aunts, parents and grandparents and it challenged us to keep the ties of love strong in our own marriages. We have a memory of Lorene telling of the young soldier man who came to church where she worshipped. When she asked who he was she was told he was Bill Boddy. She set out to make him hers right then and there! We have also kept this love strong in our own families. Of course, this love was born from God who is Love personified. He gave his only son that we may have eternal life and not perish with those who choose not to follow him. Let's each one be among the faithful who are ready to meet our loving Savior! We'll try to post a picture of our last visit with Lorene. Celia Denton was able to post this picture of Marshall with Lorene. Love to Gayle and Keith and their families, from Marshall and Betty Mitchell.

Aunt Lorene brought the family together through coordination of the Mitchell family reunions.
Pictures below are from the 2000 reunion and from Mertice and Louis’ 50th wedding anniversary in 1995.
We will always remember Aunt Lorene’s spunk and teasing sense of humor which she displayed again during our final visit.
