Obituary of Louis Porcher Brooks
Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louis Porcher Brooks, Jr. of Signal Mountain, TN, passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2016. Louis was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 23, 1924 to the late Dr. Louis P. Brooks and Marie Burks Brooks. Louis received his education at Baylor School and the University of Chattanooga, with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was retired President/Owner of R. K. Haskew & Company, Inc., having worked there thirty-seven years. He had a lifelong passion for aviation flying airplanes, for business and pleasure, into his early eighties. In World War II, Louis served under General George S. Patton’s Third Army in Europe and received the Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star Medal for Valor.
In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret “Tussa” Haskew Brooks; daughter, Clair Marie Brooks Williams; sister, Martha Brooks Long and sister-in-law, Janis Haskew Arthur. He is survived by one son, Louis Ransom “Randy” Brooks (Katherine Fillauer Brooks); two daughters, Ellen Kent Brooks and Polly Preston Brooks (Vince B. “Burnard” Tate); son-in-law, Charles Rice Williams; three grandchildren, Alexis Harrison Brooks, Kara Kent Brooks and Schalles Marie Williams; sister-in-law, Clair Haskew Robinson and a number of nieces (Haskew Girls) and nephews and two special pets, Marie & Ellie.
Anyone who knew Louis knew he lived life his way, always. Ferociously independent, never complained, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Louis didn’t understand with aging, might come limitation’s, he was a project guy, sitting around being old was not an option. Louis had a love for his family and friends that was undeniable. His love for animals, domesticated and wild, although some of us thought excessive (he fed the forest plus some) was just another way for Louis to express the love he felt in his heart.
A private celebration of Louis Porcher Brooks, Jr.’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The American Cancer Society, The McKamey Animal Center or simply, adopt, nurture and love a stray pet in your community.
