Obituary of Mark Timothy Curtis
Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mark Timothy Curtis, age 61, of Chattanooga, passed away on November 5, 2016 at the Hospice of Chattanooga with his sister at his side.
Mark Curtis was born in Chattanooga to John Winder Bailey Curtis and Jane Northern Curtis on February 28, 1955. He was an early student at the Orange Grove Center, where he was later happily employed at the OGC Recycling Center. He has lived in OGC residences more than half his life with beloved houseparents, Cindy and John Chamberlin, and Jackie Clemmons.
We have lost a great friend. His favorite things would always bring a smile; chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate milk shakes, hamburgers, his collection of Matchbox cars, and his buddies Popeye, Scooby-doo, Batman, and Superman. We can't say he's now with God, because he has always been close to God. Now he's home and at peace.
Mark is preceded in death by his father John Curtis, his step-father E.K. Magrath, and by John Chamberlin.
Mark is survived by his mother Jane Curtis Magrath, his aunts Marie Turner and Margaret Kelley, his sisters, Jamie Curtis, Margaret Taylor and her husband Jeff, his brother Jack Curtis and his wife Katrina, his little niece Emily Curtis Wrinn and her fiance Kevin Flynn, and special nephews Taun and Kiefer Curtis. Also, step-brother Dutch Magrath and his family, and step-sister Liza O'Dell and her family. Mark's cousins include Janet Jobe, Scott Kelley, Joan Bickerstaff, Hal Turner, Jeff Turner, Tom Phillips, Ellen Miller, Elsie Troceen, Ruth LeBlanc, Paul Black, Robert Black, Phil Black, and their families, as well as our extended family of Northern, Curtis, and Magrath cousins, especially Mark's good buddy GR Phillips.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Orange Grove Center, the Episcopal Metropolitan Ministries, or the Paul Curtis Scholarship Endowment at UTC.
Mark's family extends sincere thanks for the loving care given to him and his family at the Hospice Care Center, and by the sixth floor nurses, aids, doctors at Memorial Hospital. His whole life was made better by the wonderful staff of Orange Grove Center.
Visitation from 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at the Fox Parish Hall of Christ Church Episcopal, 663 Douglas St, until the memorial service at 4 p.m. in the church nave with the Rev. April Berends and the Rev. David Hackett officiating. Mark's ashes will be interred at Forest Hills Cemetery.
