Rest In Peace olde friend. When I asked for your help in assuming the Chief Medical Officer position you said you would think about it and discuss with your family. I knew then you were the right person at the right time. You made decisions by gathering the facts and showing understanding and compassion for all involved. You balanced professionalism and commitment which was no easy task. You were respected and loved by all for your integrity and compassion. You were supportive and loyal and I am immensely thankful. Thank you for your contributions to Earlanger, the Chattanooga community, the national medical community and to me. You will forever be missed. Charlesetta Woodard-Thompson

I spent my entire tenure as an EMT and Aramedic aspiring to the level that would make Dr. Creel proud to claim me as one of "his" paramedics. During an illness and subsequent surgery, Dr. Creel took time to come to my room and wish me well and talk with my wife. He always took time to talk to me at Erlanger as we passed in the hallway. I have lost a hero, example, teacher, but most importantly a friend. I lit a candle to light the dakness and void we will now all feel. May God bless and heal the family of James H. Creel, Jr., MD.

I meet Dr. Creel many years ago at Hutcheson Medical Center working then as an EMT, later I attended a Cardiac tech class sponsored at Hutcheson. He was a source of inspiration and I remember the many hours spent in he ER working thru clinical s and following a man I grew to accept as a friend, a great physician, and someone i aspired to become. I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleges at Erlanger Medical Center. Rest in peace Dr. Creel and thanks for what you taught me.

I remember meeting Dr. Creel as a young boy when he took care of my father in the wound care center at Erlanger from this chance encounter he inspired me and grew my love for medicine. He must have seen something in me because he has helped me do things no one else has been able to do at such a young age (12-18). I have now grown up and made a successful career as a Paramedic due to his influence. I owe everything I have to Dr.Creel! I have cried multiple times since getting notified of the passing and know I'm not the only person who can say this to be their story. I hope Linda and the whole family can find peace with knowledge that his in a much better place now. I also hope Linda and the Family know that the whole public service community will always remember Dr.Creel and all that his done for us. "Hook em Horns"

I am saddened by hearing of Jim's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. It's as if I've lost another brother. Just thinking of those wonderful visits in Austin as the boys passed through on their way home for the summer. Mom would cook and dad would lecture as well as put them to work at the hospital. Wonderful memories. Lasting and genuine. Just like Jim. He will be missed. A wonderful man who has left a great legacy. You are all in my prayers. Fay NASSOUR LaFon

Dr. Creel was a kind and compassionate man with a smile always on his face. There is no possible way he can receive the amount of respect that he deserves! He was one of a kind!

Well I don't know where to start. I have worked side by side with Dr. Creel since the beginning of the Residency Program and then the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Fellowship Program. These were two of his biggest dreams and he accomplished both with such determination and did an absolutely great job. I will miss him terribly because he and I would talk almost daily or see each other daily. He was definitely one of a kind and the most wonderful man in the world and cared about each and every person he met (which were many) with all the hats he wore. I know Mrs. Creel and his entire family will miss him dearly and I know those in his Emergency Medicine Family will miss him as well. I miss you already Dr. Creel - Love Velvet

I would like to express my deepest sympathy. Losing a loved one is one of the most painful things we must endure in life. I hope that you may find comfort and hope from the scriptures in the Bible. Roman's 15:4 tells us that through the comfort from the scriptures we might have hope. That hope is found in John 5:28,29 where it says,"do not be amazed at this for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Imagine the joy of seeing your husband/father again! For more information on this wonderfull resurrection promise feel free to visit www.jw.org where I am sure you will find comfort and hope for the future.

I had the honor of being the first resident chosen by Dr. Creel for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He had a way of teaching, inspiring, correcting, and loving you like no other. He always stood up for what was right no matter what the consequences. He made so many people who they are today. He is irreplaceable.
