Obituary of Betsy Johnson Farmer Patton

Betsy Johnson Farmer Patton, 74 of Lookout Mountain, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 5, 2017. She is proceeded in death by her parents H. Clay Evans Johnson, Sr. and Betty Mead Smartt Johnson, her sister Barbara Johnson Prickett of Atlanta, GA and her brother H. Clay Evans Johnson, Jr. She is a graduate of Bright School and GPS. She attended UTC where she was head cheer leader and met her first husband, Lonnie Wayne Farmer and together they had 3 children: Wayne, Knox and Elizabeth. Along with her three children Betsy was blessed with five grandchildren – Gaston Farmer, Kinsey Farmer, Walter Black, Julieanne Black and Caroline Black. In 1999 Betsy married her current husband, E. White Patton III, whom she had known from her childhood years. Driven by companionship, laughter and accompanied by their joy for life and love, Betsy and White shared 19yrs of marriage together. Betsy’s personality was contagious in life and those that met her were forever part of a wonderful friendship that would bring laughter for years to come. She served on the Board for the Juvenile Detention Center and was a financial supporter of many local charities by her lifelong involvement in the Evans Foundation and later BBC Foundation. She was crowned Cotton Ball Queen in 1960. She was a member of The Chattanooga Junior League and the Fairyland Club. As an avid equestrian, she showcased her talents in her younger years at Camp Nakanawa where she made lifelong friends. She later owned and operated Mtn. Shadow Stables. Her zest for life and beautiful charm was always at the forefront of those she met. Whether it was spending time at her home in Sea Island, Ga., entertaining family and friends, or helping someone in need; she led with her heart and spirit for life. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 11,2017 from 2-3pm at Wann followed by a funeral service at 3pm and graveside to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. Pastor Joe Novenson will preside over the services at Wann Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home and Cremation Center 4000 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37409.
