Obituary of William R. Slaughter

William R. Slaughter, 84, died Saturday, July 13, 2013. A native of Chattanooga, he attended the University of Chattanooga and was a graduate of the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. He was a retired vice president from First Tennessee Bank. A longtime communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, treasurer, and Senior Warden of the Vestry and for many years chairman of the Ushers Guild. He was preceded in death by his parents Sarah and Kennie Slaughter, and a brother, Charles A. Slaughter. Survivors are his niece Deborah (Frank) Pool and nephew Terry (Denise) Slaughter and several great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Hunter Huckabay and the Honorable Reverend Sam Payne officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Attn.
