Many of us including myself remember Homer and his unique love for the wood finishing trade. Any of you that knew homer well would have known that Homer loved working on furniture and was truly blessed by God with the skills to take a broken and uncared for piece of furniture and turn it into gold. Homer was a mentor to many of us at the Furniture Clinic because of his vast knowledge of the trade. Many of us used to joke around saying, "Homer would have forgotten more about wood finishing than any of us would ever know." This was probably true. Despite Homers incredible skill as a master finisher this is not what sticks out in my mind the most. Though he was blessed in many areas, Homer was best at being a man. By this I mean a man of truth, integrity, honor, and loyalty to those he knew and loved. Homer used to come in the shop with a smile on his face and when he left he had a smile on his face. What I found funny was that when Homer left, everyone else was smiling too. He truly had the ability to brighten a room with his senseless jokes and delightful demeanor. We will forever miss his visits to the shop and Helen's delightful treats to from the garden. (Hint: Helen you don't have to stop bringing them by if you don't want!) We also used to joke around about Homer never being in a hurry to do anything. Well he wasn't. I also know he was not in a hurry to leave all of those he loved and the things in life that he loved the most here on earth, Helen and the family, singing, and woodworking. In many ways we are all sad to see Homer leave us but I know he is in heaven with the Lord. With Homer there are no questions about why he is gone. The Lord missed him and wanted him in heaven and I know that he will enjoy him as much as we did. Thank the Lord for blessing this earth with men like Homer Wright.
