I learned today of David's passing; I was unable to provide a tribute until now. I initially met David when he was a Detective on LPD, we concurrently worked a high-profile bank robbery, that David was instrumental in solving. David was specifically recruited to join the elite FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, Nashville, Tn. as a Federal Agent. David quickly earned a reputation as a tenacious and professional investigator. David investigated violent bank robberies, kidnapping, gang matters and apprehended violent interstate fugitives. David was respected by his peers, FBI management and the United States Attorney's Office. David was the recipient of numerous FBI awards for investigative excellence, bravery and leadership. David was a good friend and partner. Till Valhalla my brother, see you on the other side. Stephens out.

He was a good detective that gave a straight answer regardless if you agreeded with him or not. You will be missed coach. Take care and thanks for the teaching over the years. J.B Rose LPD Ret.

David and I worked together for a short time while I was assigned to our Nashville office. He was a great squad mate who always had your back. One story comes to mind that occurred while I was out of town for work. When my wife and then three year old son took our family pet to the vet, a dog attacked my son, resulting in a torn jacket, scratch on his arm, and a very upset mother. Without hesitation, David went to my house to check on my son and wife. David remained at our house until things settled. My wife still fondly recalls that memory of David, even though it's been more than 14 years. God speed, David. Rest in peace. Chris and Monica R.

David,
It's funny how we get old and we all go our own ways and live our lives, but our good friends from childhood always stay anchored to us deep down in there somewhere. You were such a friend for me. I have countless memories of you and of times we shared when we were young. I hope that somehow you knew that. Somewhere I have a picture of you laughing--not a pic but an honest to god printed on kodak paper picture--with a mouth half full of cheetos. You know the one. From that illicit illegal camping trip by the creek? I still have it.
They turned our secret camping spot into a park for families since then. And I can't find a scan of that photo on any computer. But when I think of you, it's the image that comes to mind. I wish that there was some way to let you know that. Maybe that's what this wall is?
Kristi and I spoke of seeing you often after the last reunion, always with laughter. That's also something I wish I could let you know now.
Don, Kathy, and Dana, you have my deepest sympathies and my love

I am profoundly sad to write about David Loftis in the past tense, and so I will not. David is a genuine character! He loves to talk and share ideas. He has never met a stranger. If David has ever been unkind, I have never seen or heard of it. I have known David since the summer before I started Grade 5. Most recently we caught up at a Soddy Daisy High School class reunion and we exchanged colorful stories. It was as if no time had passed and we were immediatley young kids again, challenging each other and discussing what we have learned from lives well led. Most remarkable is that David is a wonderful friend to people from all walks of life. He lives on in our hearts and memories semper memoria. Wishing love and comfort be upon his beautiful family today and all the days ahead. Kristi Shell Green, SDHS Class of 1989

David,
We graduated together from Soddy Daisy High School a long, long time ago.
I’m in London, England now, but the news of your passing has reached me.
My condolences to your family from the Pringle family. A donation in memory of you has been made to The Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.
Yes, you were stubborn, but so kind. You were a very much loved member of the class of 1987. You were an original...
I know in my heart we will meet again under God’s open arms.
With much love,
Debbi Pringle
